AAM Investment Group is a progressive and innovative Australian owned group leading the way in livestock operations throughout Australia.  We currently have an exciting once in a lifetime new opportunity to lead the development of a large-scale livestock enterprise. The livestock manager will have the opportunity to help with initial procurement along with the implantation of genetic selection and developing a large merino breeding production system including infrastructure development. 
This role reports directly to the Operations Manager – and has complete responsibility for the livestock management on a large-scale new aggregation of properties in the central west of NSW based in the Forbes area.
Key responsibilities include:  
  • Implement and manage modern best practice processes to maximise livestock outcomes.
  • Manage each step in the lifecycle of the livestock.
  • Maintaining team compliance with all policies including: WHS, QA, animal welfare & environmental obligations.
  • Pasture management & feed budgeting.
  • Marketing, procurement and selection of suitable animals.
  • Record keeping utilising modern technology and production management software systems.
  • Directly manage contractors engaged to carry out work such as shearing, crutching, lamb marking, fencing etc.
  • General manual tasks associated with farming such as animal husbandry, stock movement, machinery operation & infrastructure maintenance.
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following:
  • At least 10 years of experience managing high volume sheep and wool production.
  • A passion for producing quality, profitable livestock.
  • Demonstrable ability to implement best management practices.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Agriculture or equivalent desirable.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sheep industry including breeds, wool & meat production, weights, feed lotting and supplement feeding systems & key performance drivers.
  • Advanced animal handling experience and own working dogs.
  • A high level of experience in livestock husbandry, pasture and grazing management.
  • Mechanical experience and working with farm machinery/infrastructure desirable
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping skills.
  • Efficient and pro-active time management with good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and plan.
  • Work well as part of a team.
